The Axios published the Harvard Youth Poll survey on Sunday, which revealed that an increasing number of the youngest eligible voters identify as conservative and right-wing – as noted by Mandiner.
According to Axios, it is rare for such a young American age group to be more conservative than the previous generation. The report showed that 26 percent of men aged 18-24 identify as conservative, which is five points higher than men aged 25-29. Among women in the younger age group, conservatives lead by three points.
John Della Volpe, the director of the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics, told Axios that this age group was most affected by the coronavirus pandemic and feel that the political elite has ignored them. These young people were 10 years old when Donald Trump was elected, so for them, that state of affairs seems normal, and they long to return to it, according to Della Volpe.
"Trump is more of an antihero in their eyes than a villain. It’s not about politics, it’s about personality," Della Volpe said.
