The European People’s Alliance for Peace has been born, which wants peace – declared Matteo Salvini, who closed the League’s assembly in Pontida, Lombardy on Sunday after the speeches of the Patriots for Europe politicians. Matteo Salvini spoke after the speeches and video messages of his European and international allies on a stage with the inscription “Defending borders is not a crime.”
“We will not give up!” – Salvini shouted several times, with the crowd answering “Never!” each time. The leader of the League, the Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, stated that neither he nor the European patriots will give up the pursuit of peace, freedom, national decision-making, and security. He remembered the victims of the terror attack by Hamas on October 7 last year and emphasized that the same date is significant for European Christians due to the victory at Lepanto in 1571.
“The sacred league of European peoples, which wants peace, is starting again from Pontida,” Matteo Salvini said. He criticized the left for preaching peace but financing war, demanding rights but neglecting their duties to ensure safety on the streets of European cities. He questioned why citizenship should be given to those who then sell drugs in our cities, rape women, and fill our prisons with criminals.
Salvini referred to those attacking the police in European cities as fake peace activists, and to those attempting to dismantle European agriculture and companies in the name of the green transition as Brussels eco-terrorists. He emphasized that Islamist fundamentalism, which he called the “cancer” of our civilization, is considered extreme, as well as defending Geert Wilders against Islamist terrorist threats and Orbán Viktor against Soros and the promoters of uniform thinking, cancel culture, and gender ideology.
The League politicians and the delegation of Patriots for Europe spoke at Pontida, while former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Jordan Bardella, the leader of the French National Rally, sent video messages. Bardella thanked Viktor Orbán for making the Patriots the third-largest party group in the European Parliament.
“We thank you for your courage, we are waiting for you in Europe, where we continue to protect our common values,” Bardella said, referring to Viktor Orbán’s upcoming speech as the EU’s rotating presidency. Geert Wilders stated that illegal immigration has brought the threat of terrorism into our homes, increases crime, and aims to spread Islamist radicalism.
Wilders noted that after the Netherlands, Hungary also intends to make use of the so-called opt-out clause and not join the EU’s dictated migration pact. Paolo Borchia, the leader of the League’s EP group, stated that if Germany closes its borders and Sweden reduces asylum seekers’ social support, why is Italy considered bad for defending the common European borders?
Orbán Viktor’s speech was introduced as being about “the man feared by the left who wants to straighten out Europe.” The Hungarian Prime Minister ended his speech by repeating the chorus of the well-known Italian song “Forward, Buda Boys,” welcoming the young members of the League.
