The suspect had a loaded shotgun, handgun, and high-capacity magazine.
The third assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump was thwarted at the last minute on Saturday when local police stopped an armed man with weapons and fake credentials ahead of his rally in Coachella Valley – the local sheriff reported, according to the New York Post.
The suspect was apprehended by police about a mile away from the rally location. He had a loaded shotgun, handgun, and high-capacity magazine with him.
“We likely prevented another assassination attempt,” said Chad Bianco, sheriff of Riverside County.
The suspect, identified as Vem Miller, was apprehended by the police at a checkpoint about half a mile from the entrance to the rally. He had fake press and VIP credentials.
“These were different enough to raise alarms with the officers,” Bianco said according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
According to Bianco, Miller is a member of a right-wing anti-government organization and was planning to kill Trump.
