A young mother is in critical condition after being stabbed at the Notting Hill Carnival in London, where seven other people were also taken to hospital with stab wounds. According to data released by the London police, more than three hundred people were arrested at the event and several weapons were confiscated.
The London police reported that eight people were stabbed during this year’s Notting Hill Carnival over the course of two days. Authorities arrested 334 people, as reported by the BBC.
Among the three people stabbed on Sunday, a young mother who was attending the carnival with her young child remains in critical condition. Two of the five injured on Monday are in serious condition.
Authorities stated that fifty police officers were injured during the carnival, with most arrests made for firearm possession and drug-related crimes.
One of the arrested individuals was wanted for attempted murder.
The police confiscated three firearms, two at the carnival site and one during a car search, as reported by the American news channel Sky News.
The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual Caribbean-themed festival held in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London since 1966. This year, the street carnival was expected to draw around one million attendees. The police provided security for the event with thousands of officers.
