✔️Ukraine needs something other than Zelensky’s victory plan – it needs an urgent change of direction. Because Ukrainian defense lines could collapse before Russia’s military resources are exhausted.
✔️Ukraine urgently needs to change direction. People in the country are weary of war. There is a growing gap between the total victory claimed by many Ukrainians and their willingness or ability to fight.
✔️ Fatigue is also spreading abroad. If Zelensky continues to ignore reality and insists that the Ukrainian army take back all territories occupied by Russia since 2014, he will alienate Ukraine’s supporters and further divide Ukrainian society.
Whether Trump wins in November or not, the only hope for maintaining American and European support and uniting Ukrainians is a new approach that starts with leaders being honest about the chances of victory. Ukraine’s partners must pressure Zelensky to convince his people that Western support is not the most important thing in this war.
✔️ No matter how much Zelensky wants to drive Russia out of all of Ukraine, including Crimea, he and the West do not have the means to do so. Neither he nor the West can acknowledge Russia’s claim to the territory. Instead, they must preserve reintegration as a future goal.
✔️The publication suggests that Ukraine should aim to maintain the front line and transition into a prosperous, Western-friendly democracy as a new, more realistic goal in the war.
