False and true hope

Faith, hope, love. According to the love hymn of the Apostle Paul, these are currently the three greatest values for Christians (cf. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13). That is why they face the greatest attacks from the world. Nowadays, they advertise two-parent and two-mother “families” by referring to love. There are priests who claim that their faith deepens after their departure. And many people among the Christians also abuse the nature of the human soul, which can and wants to hope for good.

False prophets of hope

I know a priest who preaches to blind children that Jesus can heal them. The kids tend to understand this as one day Jesus will enter their lives and then they will see. These poor children try everything to let Christ into their hearts, and yet they do not heal, they remain blind. This is the kind of false hope that false prophets practice. The result is a tremendous disappointment in God. Many of these children will become hardened atheists. Is this good for them?

Hope is the spirit of perseverance

But ultimately, what is the focus of Christian hope? The determination to confidently await God’s help is hope. In other words, hope is directed towards God’s help. True hope makes a person active and keeps them in the realm of reality. True hope is humble: it knows that everything does not depend on it. It only means something when paired with love. A soul living in hope perseveres in its waiting. God helps when we need Him.

Pió father healed many sick people, yet he built a hospital where people worked for the healing of other people. The hope that those who enter this hospital will leave healed did not undermine the belief that God can heal miraculously. And this is where we understand the Apostle Paul. Faith, hope, love are three interdependent states of the soul. Therefore, hope cannot exist on its own. But why am I telling you this now?

The hope of the Hungarian people

The hope of the Hungarian people is that one day the “Hungarian name will be beautiful again/ worthy of its ancient great fame”. Is there faith in this and is there true love in this? There is patriotism in this and hope for peace. There is also faith in it, because we Hungarians believe that God will grant us this honor. Is this not deception?

No. Why? Let’s pay attention to the quoted Petőfi lines! The Hungarian name will become beautiful. That is, the Hungarian identity will receive recognition. This is not about becoming a geopolitical factor. Not about an economic miracle. Just a world-renowned fame that suits our culture.

We see that despite the activities of the mainstream Western media defaming us, more and more media consumers consider our country the island of peace. We saw that the third largest faction of the EU parliament was formed with Hungarian leadership. We see that the Hungarian Prime Minister was welcomed by serious leaders both in the East and the West. Our name will become more beautiful. We can confidently hope for this. But only if we hold on to faith and love.
