Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ridiculed claims by the German media that the Nord Stream pipelines were blown up by a small diving team using a “small boat.”
In September 2022, a series of underwater explosions sabotaged the Nord Stream pipelines, which transported Russian natural gas through the Baltic Sea to Germany and other parts of Western Europe, near the Danish island of Bornholm.
Several Western newspapers reported that a small team of Ukrainian-friendly divers was responsible for the sabotage, renting a yacht to sail across the Baltic Sea and destroy the gas pipelines.
Commenting on the media reports, Lavrov stated: “Five people sat, drank, laughed, and decided, ‘Why not blow up the Nord Stream pipelines?’ They had diving skills, allegedly rented a small boat, sailed to where the Nord Stream passes, went down, placed explosive material, and blew it up.” – he said.
“If someone truly believes this version, then they can only be people who are afraid of the truth, and try to defend the criminal Kiev regime in any way possible,” he suggested.
Lavrov revealed that despite numerous requests, Russia has still not received any information from the German authorities about the investigation, and claimed that transparency is lacking in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Denmark and Sweden, who also ignored all of Moscow’s requests, announced that they have closed their national investigations into the Nord Stream explosions – the minister noted.
“We will not give up on this issue, we will continue to strive for a transparent investigation, which the USA, UK, and their allies are blocking in every possible way,” Lavrov said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin categorically rejected claims that activists blew up the pipelines and insisted that the explosions were carried out by professionals supported by “the full power of the state, which has certain technologies.”
