A large-scale operation near the train station – a 61-year-old man died in a suspected stabbing attack in Sarstedt, Lower Saxony. The man was seriously injured around 10 a.m. near Bahnhofstraße and died shortly afterward at the scene, the police spokesperson said.
According to the Bild newspaper, the victim was allegedly of migrant background.
In the evening, the police and the public prosecutor confirmed to the newspaper “Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung” (HAZ) that the deceased man was the operator of the hotel converted into accommodation for migrants.
The fire department deploys a large contingent around the affected train station in the small town of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony. Initial investigations quickly pointed to a possible suspect, who is now being searched for with full force and all available resources.
The suspect is on the run
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect is still on the run. A helicopter was deployed for the search operation. The suspect is allegedly about 1.80 meters tall, with short dark hair, wearing a black t-shirt, likely jeans, and probably a beige jacket.
Investigators urge the public to come forward with any information they may have. The background and exact circumstances of the crime are still completely unclear. The investigation was initiated for attempted murder, and a homicide unit has also been set up.
